Notice du cartel&nbsp;: \u00ab\u00a0Ce tableau formait la partie inf\u00e9rieure de L&rsquo;\u00c9pisode d&rsquo;un combat de taureau, une sc\u00e8ne de corrida o\u00f9 se voyait l&rsquo;animal qui a renvers\u00e9 l&rsquo;homme \u00e9tendu sur le dos. La presse, au Salon de 1864, \u00e9trille l&rsquo;\u0153uvre. Mais d&rsquo;autres avis s&rsquo;expriment, sensibles \u00e0 la puissance de cette figure flottante entre vie et mort, d&rsquo;une \u00e9motion renversante, voire digne d&rsquo;\u00eatre isol\u00e9e. En somme, Manet suit ce conseil, d\u00e9coupe son tableau et le renomme pour l&rsquo;exposer en 1867 sous un titre qui lui conf\u00e8re une port\u00e9e plus universelle.\u00a0\u00bb Remarque&nbsp;: les photographies num\u00e9riques reconnaissent d\u00e9sormais le texte, qui est donc \u00ab\u00a0copiable\u00a0\u00bb.
