Op\u00e9ra en trois actes de John Adams, <em>Nixon in China<\/em> (projet amorc\u00e9 en 1982, cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 1987). Le livret d&rsquo;Alice Goodman, un long po\u00e8me changeant, subtil, agen\u00e7ant fragments de documents authentiques, citations, paroles ordinaires et oniriques, appara\u00eet comme l&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9ment central capable d&rsquo;articuler la musique \u2014 apparent\u00e9e au minimalisme, mais elle aussi riche en r\u00e9f\u00e9rences historiques et en effets dramaturgiques tr\u00e8s efficaces \u2014 et la mise en sc\u00e8ne des chanteurs et des danseurs. Tr\u00e8s beau travail des lumi\u00e8res, des couleurs et des costumes avec l&rsquo;intervention tranch\u00e9e de Shilpa Gupta, une jeune artiste indienne que nous avions d\u00e9j\u00e0 remarqu\u00e9e. Que la mise en sc\u00e8ne et la chor\u00e9graphie soient de Chen Shi-Zheng, form\u00e9 en Chine \u00e0 l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra chinois, amplifie sans doute encore la complexit\u00e9 multicouches d&rsquo;un propos \u00e0 la fois s\u00e9rieusement historique et ouvertement satirique. Il \u00e9vite la pure parodie pour donner \u00e0 voir une dialectique et une distanciation fond\u00e9es sur une gestuelle que l&rsquo;on sait provenir de l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra chinois, y compris r\u00e9volutionnaire.
